Study by Navsarjan and RFK Centre on "Understanding Untouchability"

E-mail Print PDF

Understanding Untouchability

The report is published by the Navsarjan (India) and RFK centre (USA). It measures the practice of untouchability prevalent in the state of Gujarat. The state of Gujarat is one of the most economically advanced states in India, but at the same time it is the state plagued with fundamentalism and prevalence of the caste system and untouchability.

The report supports the fact hereto denied by the Government that the untouchability is still alive in India though it is banned by the Article 17 of the Indian Constitution.

The Civil Rights movement in India has a long way to go, one of the impediments to eradicate practice of untouchability and caste system is the apathy of the upper caste Hindus.
